I was just watching the news and while their are several billion things I could rant about (Bush's speech on immigration for instance) I really need to get some stuff off my chest about the new, up-and-coming "fad" in plastic surgery -- fat grafting, or, Brazilian Butt lifts.

This fairly new procedure is where they use liposuction on another part of your body, usually your stomach, and then take the fat they have sucked out of you and inject it into your butt in order to give you a more "brazilian" looking backside. Now, I definitely agree that a nice, round ass is quite attractive and appealing but what is the deal with people and plastic surgery? why the f*ck has it become okay to hack off the pieces you don't like about yourself for several thousand dollars and then place new, fake parts where you feel you are lacking? why has the self esteem of women sunk to such a low that we all feel like we have to do this to ourselves in order to be attractive to men and happy/comfortable in our skin? why are their guys out there who support their wives' or girlfriends' decisions to augment their bodies in such a manner? Is it really attractive to have scars and parts of your body that are fake or not truly your own?

I am not happy with a lot of my body and there are many things I would like to change. There are times when I feel supremely inadequate because I am bombarded by pictures of stick thin models with huge boobs/butts tacked onto their tiny, bony frames and men appear to be particularly attracted to them. I understand that there is an immense amount of pressure to have a great figure, a toned, tight, perfectly curved female body but I really feel like plastic surgery is not the answer and that this addiction has gotten seriously out of control. Plastic surgery used to be a good thing for people who had gotten into deforming accidents or who needed certain things for more medical reasons but recently people seem to throw money at these surgeries as if they were nothing. Instead of trying to make ourselves mold to some ridiculous standard that we have somehow placed for ourselves, why don't we try working on changing the standard a little bit and work on growing as a community of people instead of destroying our bodies and our self esteem even more. What is so wrong with all of these young, beautiful girls that they really need to undergo plastic surgery? Do highschool seniors really need breast enlargement as a graduation gift at age 18?

Maybe this is just me, but I think there is something seriously wrong with this huge trend towards plastic surgery. It is seriously being misused and this problem really needs to be addressed.
